Lindbergh to Ring in Concord Elementary Opening with Historic Bell

The Concord school has a rich history in the district.

The reopening of Concord Early Education Center as Concord Elementary School will be rung in with a historic bell.

According to a Lindbergh School District press release, a bell dated 1886 was rediscovered during demolition of the old building’s interior this summer and has been restored to its original beauty with money donated by the Sappington-Concord Historical Society. Former students who remember hearing the bell in the early 1900s will be present during Thursday’s ribbon cutting.

The first Concord School, a one-room log cabin schoolhouse, opened in 1844. Since then, three additional buildings have been constructed on the property.

Concord Elementary School opens its doors to elementary school students on Aug. 16, marking the newest chapter for a school that has a long, storied history in the Lindbergh community.

Concord Elementary School now serves students in grades prekindergarten through five. Many of the school’s students and teachers are transferring from Truman Elementary School, which will reopen as a second Lindbergh middle school. Concord is now one of five elementary schools in the Lindbergh district.

“I am excited to begin the 2011-12 school year in our new home,” said Dr. Megan Stryjewski, Concord principal. “As we continue the Truman tradition of excellence in our new location, we will miss our friends and teachers who are moving on to other schools in the district. However, I am confident that our new, smaller family will have many great experiences at Concord.”

Concord construction was funded by Prop R 2008, a $31 million bond issue approved by voters to eliminate overcrowding at Sperreng Middle School and create more equally sized elementary schools.
