Southview School Honors Local Businesses
Community partners help Special School District students thrive in real world atmospheres.
Finding a good, productive job for students when they graduate is a priority according to Dr. Paul Bauer, director of special education. Sixteen South County businesses that support this endeavor were honored at a breakfast Wednesday at the school in Crestwood.
Southview’s Vocational Skills Program provides a continuum of supports and services to students and families to assist the students in gaining skills needed to achieve realistic and meaningful post-secondary goals such as job training and life skills. The businesses honored provide work sites for the program.
“The abilities of these young people, these students, is amazing,” Southview School Principal Chuck Howard said while welcoming guests. “We really want to have a program that is a continuum of services.”

Howard also stressed that even though the school has some of the best educated parents in the district, he wants to further educate parents and invite them to next year’s breakfast.

Assistant Principal Ellen Gaffrey offered closing remarks: “It’s incredible to see the commitment that teachers have to our students. They are ambassadors for our school and students and go out and seek opportunities. I thank the businesses, staff and kids for working so hard.”
