Lindbergh Football Falls to Parkway South in Season Opener

Flyers coach Tom Beauchamp thinks the young team can find their edge this season despite a 19-30 loss to the Patriots on Aug. 24.

The Flyers had a bumpy start to their 2012 season, falling 30-19 to the Parkway South Patriots Friday night. Check out some of our game photos on the Sunset Hills-Crestwood Patch Facebook page.

Flyers coach Tom Beauchamp attributed the game's weak points to the growing pains of a young team. The Flyers, who retained only a handful of their returning starters, seemed 'over antsy' during their season opener, Beauchamp said.

"They're young and they get rattled a bit at times." While some of the older players were able to 'hunker down,' Beauchamp noted "some of the younger kids don't have that edge yet, and hopefully that will come."

Beauchamp said they'll continue to focus on improving blocking and tackling.

When camp kicked off at the end of last month, Beauchamp had yet to choose a starting quarterback, which the team has now found in sophomore Logan Offner. Offner completed 15 of 32 passes Friday night.

"He's young. You expect a few mistakes," Beauchamp said. "He's a good young man, he works hard, tough, he's hard nosed. I expect good things out of him."
