Crestwood Pools Prove to Be a Hot Spot for Summer

The Crestwood locations have soon a boost in popularity from 2011.

After less than a month of operation, Crestwood Recreation Manager Todd Stover could say the city's pools have had a "pretty good season" so far at the Parks Board meeting June 19.

The high attendance to date for 2012 had 907 guests at the pool in one day, up from 807 visitors from last year. Concessions and admittance fees were also significantly higher at this point in comparison, generating $7,622 combined, about $2,000 more than 2011's revenue at this point. The pool is making about $600 more per day.

With additional recreation programs, the amount of participants is also higher than at the conclusion of the 2011 season. With 58 different classes available, Stover reported 733 enrollments and a total of $74,630 in fees produced.

Stover said one number in particular was lacking: new memberships. With nearly 2,500 renewals from 2011, the combined new and renewed memberships are lower than last year. Although the income from memberships is higher, Stover said he's hoping more residents will sign up before too long.

Other improvements Stover said have been made to the pool include new tubes for floating down the lazy river, a climbing wall and lily pad net. A new pipe has been installed on the lazy river as well -- where a pipe used to intentionally shoot out water at the river travellers, it is sealed off to keep sunbathers and readers who wish to remain dry from getting wet. The concessions stand also now sells bottled beverages, which Stover said is easier for visitors to make their way around the pool.

"We have a lot of good new things, good improvements," Stover said.
