Men Stole Jewelry From Home Near Sappington, Police Say

Danijel Colic and Hajro Velic, of Affton, were charged Thursday with second-degree burglary and felony theft.

Two Affton men pulled over by St. Louis County Police Tuesday were found to have jewelry stolen in a burglary at a South County home earlier in the day, police said. A witness gave investigators a description of the men, St. Louis County Police said. Danijel Colic, 19, and Hajro Velic, 20, both of the 6700 block of Highland House Court in Affton, were charged Thursday with second-degree burglary and felony stealing. The two men are neighbors. St. Louis County Police said Colic and Velic entered a home in the 10900 block of Cosmos Drive, just south of Grant’s Farm. The two stole several pieces of jewelry, including pins, earrings, necklaces, a bracelet and a wrist watch, police said. The items were valued at a total of $800. A witness …

Hanging Around: Area Firefighters Train on Ropes

The Crestwood Fire Department attended the training in Clayton last week.

A fire in a high rise building is a rare occurrence, but area firefighters spent last week training for just such an occasion. Crestwood firefighters joined the Clayton Fire Department on a high angle rope rescue class. Firefighters from Clayton, Brentwood, Frontenac, Kirkwood, Maplewood, University City and St. Louis City were also in attendance. The firefighters learned how to rescue people from high places using rescue ropes. The training included mock drills on how to get people up and down narrow spaces, like elevator shafts.

Crestwood Police Beat

Daytime Burglary Reported on Del Vista Drive

Crestwood police investigated the residential burglary.

The following information was reported by the Crestwood Police Department: May 6 - A daytime residential burglary occurred at a home in the 8700 block of Del Vista. No forced entry was discovered but a digital tablet, valued at $149, was missing and later found in the backyard. May 7 - There was a gas drive-off from Mobil on the Run, 9900 Big Bend Blvd. resulting in a loss of $46 in fuel. St. Louis County Most Wanted Fugitives

The list of St. Louis County Police Department's Most Wanted fugitives.

The St. Louis County Police Department regularly maintains a list of its most wanted fugitives. The list is updated as fugitives are apprehended. It currently includes suspects wanted for child kidnapping, domestic assault, armed criminal action, rape, robbery and abuse of a child.   Among them is Ibraheem D. Yasin, pictured here. He is wanted on charges of assault and unlawful use of a weapon. His last known address is in Florissant. Sappington Elementary Student Dies, Struck by Car

Lonnie Avent, a Lakeshire boy who attended Sappington Elementary School, died Thursday evening.

A 9-year-old Sappington Elementary School student died Thursday evening after being struck by a car.   Lonnie Avent, of Lakeshire, was hit by a neighbor driving through the alley behind the 4900 block of Alcott in the Walnut Park neighborhood. Police reported to media that Avent was struck by the 33-year-old driver after jumping into the alley from the top of a trash dumpster. Family members were quick to correct media reports, saying Avent was playing football with his father and other family, according to KSDK.  Lanette Cassel, who identifies as Avent's aunt online, described the boy as an honor roll student who loved life, sports and his Nintendo DS.  "I will always love him," she posted on KSDK. The St. Louis County Police Department regularly maintains a list of its most wanted fugitives. The list is updated as fugitives are apprehended. It currently includes suspects wanted for child kidnapping, domestic assault, armed criminal action, rape, robbery and abuse of a child. Among them is Moshen J. Abu-Khudeier, pictured here. He is wanted on charges of attempted enticement of a child. His last known address is in Chesterfield.
