San Jose Mexican Restaurant will have an outdoor tent, T-shirts and sombreros.
Even though Cinco de Mayo is technically a Mexican holiday, over the past couple of years, it's grown to be an nationwide celebration in the United States. Many mistake Cinco as Mexican Independence Day, which is Sept. 16. It is a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, however according to Wikipedia.com, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. There are three Mexican restaurants in Sunset Hills and Crestwood, and they will be celebrating Cinco with specials all day long, considering the holiday falls on a Saturday this year. Enjoy! San Jose Mexican Restaurant will host a tent party starting at 11 a.m. with a DJ. T-shirts and sombreros will be available…

A secret ingredient to make your St. Patrick's Day dinner more grand is cooking with Irish beer.
Ask an Irishman what makes his Irish eyes smile and he’ll likely say it’s the brew in his glass. “I love checking out all the Irish beers this time of year,” said South Countian Mark Cobb who spent time this weekend comparing the Irish beer selections featured at Fenton’s Friar Tuck. “My favorites are the Irish red ales. They have a nice malty flavor that tastes great with a plate of corned beef.” Crestwood also has a Friar Tuck location at 9053 Watson Rd. Irish red ales and Ireland’s renowned dry, dark stouts will be the featured drink on countless St Patrick’s Day tables. Each brew processes rich flavors worthy of consideration as an ingredient in everything from soup to a nut-laced chocolate cake. Brewmiesers and chefs agree, almost any…

Plus, another challenger enters the State Attorney General's race.
The wee hours of Thursday morning brought about big chances for state Senate districts in St. Louis County. The tentative document, detailed in coverage from the St. Louis Beacon, means that Sen. Jane Cunningham (R-Chesterfield) is now in a district with Sen. Brian Nieves, (R-Washington). And districts represented by Sen. Jim Lembke (R-Lemay) and John Lamping (R-Ladue) also saw significant changes. If this sounds familiar, that's because the map had to be redrawn after the original document was declared unconstitutional. More analysis will surely come over the next days and weeks. For now, the map is subject to a 15-day public comment period. News On Statewide Races With the August primaries still on the horizon, a pair of statewide …

If you discover gold elsewhere, let's add it. #5 Bar Louie in Kirkwood has $5 selected martinis, M-F, 4-7 p.m. Try the popular Dirty Martini with a blue cheese stuffed olive. #4 Highway 61 Roadhouse in Webster Groves has $4 Hurricanes M-F, 3:30-6:30 p.m., and M-Th, 10 p.m. to Close. For $1 more, make your Hurricane a "level 6" by floating a shot of Absolute New Orleans. #3 Boogaloo in Maplewood has $1 off mojitos on Thursdays (and they're yummy, plenty of variety too.) #2 Trainwreck Saloon in Rock Hill has $2 wells on Tuesday nights and the name of the place…

Art opening provides both.
This week's Great Escape is an easy one. It combines several elements that, as a parent, you may miss in your life from time to time. Big city lights, drinking, and an art museum event for adults only— with hors d'oeurves children would blanch at. The event celebrates the museum's new, groundbreaking exhibition, Fiery Pool: The Maya and the Mythic Sea. Featured will be chocolatiers from Kakao Chocolate and brewmasters from Schlafly Bottleworks, both of whom will conduct tastings that reflect Mayan tradition. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided by Catering St. Louis with live music and special tours of the exhibition. The Mayans …
