Flyers Prepped For Postseason After Intense Defeat at Oakville

Lindbergh (16-8, 5-3) locked into a heated road battle against Suburban West Conference rival Oakville (10-14, 4-4) last weekend.

As the Lindbergh girls prepare to play in the Class 5 District 6 basketball tournament that is being hosted at Lindbergh High School this week, the Flyers hope to benefit from their last stern test of the regular season. Last Friday night, Lindbergh (16-8, 5-3) locked into a heated road battle against Suburban West Conference rival Oakville (10-14, 4-4). With two-and-a-half minutes left in the fourth quarter, the officials called a timeout. The game had gotten very rough throughout the second half, and the officals had enough of the shoving and the trash talk. Calling both teams to the center of the court, official John Diffley wanted to say something. Diffley said, “Basically I told them that they needed to settle their emotions. I said ‘…

Lindbergh Girls Fall to Eureka in Crucial League Clash

Eureka beats Lindbergh, 75-60, in a key Suburban West Conference game. Each team entered the matchup undefeated in league play.

The Lindbergh and Eureka varsity girls basketball teams battled on Tuesday night for what will probably be the deciding game for the Suburban West Conference championship. Each team entered this matchup at Eureka undefeated. Eureka (15-5) took the lead early and never looked back in a 75-60 win. The win gives the Wildcats a 6-0 conference record while Lindbergh (14-6) falls to 3-1 in conference play. Lindbergh freshman guard LaTondra Brooks led the Flyers with 21 points. She scored 11 points in the first half, and then drilled all five of her fouls shots in the second half. Senior guard Keonia Blair, who averages 20.6 points per game, scored 16 points in the game. But the efforts of Blair and Brooks weren’t enough. “One problem was, we …

Lindbergh Coach Struggles to Think of One Worse

The Flyers girls b-ball endure a 46-35 loss to St. Charles in the first round of its tournament.

Lindbergh girls basketball coach Bill Thoele had a hard time thinking of a worse performance by his team following the Flyers’ 46-35 loss to St. Charles in the first round of the Lindbergh Tournament on Monday night. “That’s the worst we’ve played this year,” Thoele said. “We can score and it was just one of those games where we didn’t. We were just totally out of control. We were playing way too fast. We want to play quick, not fast, but we were out of position the whole time. “We didn’t get in the right defenses. We didn’t match up with the right player. It was just one of those nights where we absolutely did nothing right the whole game. There was nothing from this game that I want to have as a positive. The only good thing is it’s over…

Red-Hot Second Half Carries Lindbergh Girls Past Northwest

The Flyers use a 40-19 second-half advantage to defeat Northwest, 66-43.

After making just one of their 14 field goal attempts against Northwest in the second quarter Friday night at Lindbergh High School, Lindbergh girls coach Bill Thoele couldn’t believe his team was actually winning at halftime. Not many could believe the run they went on in the second half, either. Lindbergh used a 22-6 advantage in the fourth quarter, and a 40-19 advantage in the second half, to turn a two-point game into a blowout, beating the visiting Northwest Lions 66-43 in a  Suburban West Conference game. “We shot the ball pretty bad there in the first half,” Thoele said. “I didn’t think we shot the ball very well at all but I said, ‘You know what? We didn’t shoot the ball well and we’re still winning and you know we’ll shoot better …
