Sunset Greens Residents Say 'No' to Missouri American Water Trailer...At Least for Now

Missouri American Water brought its proposal for a new trailer facility on the South County plant to a public hearing Monday, but left with a pending review.

The South County branch of the Missouri American Water Company was hoping to receive a push forward at a public hearing during the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen meeting July 10. What they got instead were a lot of questions and complaints. David Moore, Missouri American Water's real estate manager, and engineer representative Matt Dwyer took to the podium during the meeting to present the proposed additions to the South County plant campus located in Sunset Hills. The plans included the use of an asphalt lot, a tuff shed unit for storage and a 40 by 80 foot trailer. Moore said the purpose of the 4/10 of an acre lot on the 53-acre campus would be to serve as a reporting station for company workers in the South County area. The trailer …

Community Development Block Grant Receives Public Hearing

For the 2013 fiscal year, Crestwood has been allocated $23,400 in grant funds to be used in conjunction with approved projects.

Since fiscal year 2006, the City of Crestwood has participated in the Community Development Block Grant program. The grant is administered through St. Louis County, and the one that the city chooses is a home improvement program. The wait list for the program is two years, and the city must have a public hearing as part of the grant process. Nikki Koehnemann, assistant to the city administrator, addressed questions during the public hearing segment of Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting. There are five different areas available to choose from, and the city has again chosen a low to moderate direct income benefit for the rehabilitation for private properties.  Up to five eligible residents of the City of Crestwood can receive five-year …

Board Brainstorms Potential Sappington Barn Center Uses

A farmer’s market, trail-related shop were among ideas pondered at last week’s meeting.

Approximately 30 calls ranging from established banquet-type facilities to “mom and pop” start-ups were fielded regarding the Sappington Barn Center Request for Proposals issued in February. The deadline to issue a formal RFP to the City of Crestwood was April 3, however ultimately there were no responses, leaving Director of Public Services James Eckrich at a loss as to how to proceed. The Board of Alderman had an open brainstorming session at last week’s meeting, admitting that right now they are in the idea phase for uses of the Barn and adjacent parking lot rather than the solution phase. The site was shown to 5-7 people, and after initial interest died down, Eckrich discussed the issue with the city administrator and the mayor, …

Eastman, Crestwood Board of Aldermen Agree on Separation Terms

Seven months salary and a one-year health insurance option are part of the agreement.

More questions about former Crestwood City Administor Petree Eastman's departure from the city have been answered.  According to city documents, the Board of Aldermen met in two separate closed meetings in March and April to discuss Eastman's future. Discussion was held regarding a legal action in both sessions, and a motion was made to authorize payment of seven months severance and 12 months of health insurance.  A joint statement between the city and Eastman explains that a list of directives were issed in a March 5 memo to Eastman after the March closed session. Eastman responded March9 in a memo, expressing her belief that "certain of the directives represented material changes to her authority and duties and that, according to her …

Weren't the Board and Mrs. Eastman repeatedly harassed by citizens under the sunshine law to disclose government business? Either way, Alyssa, I'm certain there are many employees of Crestwood that know exactly what happened, which would lead me to believe a good reporter could find out.   more ›

Paul Duchild Named Crestwood Board of Aldermen President

Duchild was nominated by Alderman Jerry Miguel, saying that Duchild earned his opportunity to serve as president.

Crestwood's Ward III Alderman Paul Duchild has been voted board president by his peers. Duchild, who is serving his second term, was nominated by Alderman Jerry Miguel. "Alderman Duchild has served on the Ways and Means Committee—he has a good understanding of the city's financial issues and the challenges, which I think is also extremely important in that position," Miguel said. "Those positions are challenging and require a great deal of time." Newly-elected Alderman Robert Deutschmann also received a nominated from Alderman Jerry Foote.  "I've looked around and most of us here, with the exception of a few, have served as board presidents," Foote said. "There's one individual who has been the most reliable attendee of residents for years…

Residents should note that Duchild voted not to give Former city administrator Petree Eastmann a $70,000 dollar settlement.. They should also note that at a 2 1/2% sales tax the vendors of crestwood would have to sell 2,800,000...That my friends is a lot of hamburgers the new Culvers will have to sell before they break even.   more ›

Morning Polls Slow, Volunteers Hope for Higher Traffic Throughout Day

Both Crestwood and Sunset Hills saw slow mornings as polls opened at 6 a.m.

Candidates and volunteers alike agreed that they would like to see more voters at the polls Tuesday. Crestwood Board of Aldermen Ward 2 candidates Tim Trueblood and Mary Stadter were both outside of Crestwood City Hall this morning, and Trueblood said as of 8:30 a.m. he estimated he had only seen about 12 voters walk through the doors. John O'Sullivan has been voting since he registered at the age of 18. He is now 30.  "I feel like it's my obligation and duty," he said. "I just moved here this year (to Crestwood)." Over in Sunset Hills, Carol Gregorson was volunteering outside of the Community Center in support of Lindbergh School District Board of Education candidates.  "It's been slow—hopefully the moms will come by after they drop kids …

The way most people view this race, residents will need to decide whether to vote for Havener, a new face with a fresh perspective and loads of professional experience, or Svoboda, a former one-term Mayor who has been known to tell residents to "get your head out of your b***" Ok, yeah, that's really tough decision to make.   more ›
