Lindbergh Makes Cuts to Ensure Balanced Budget

Lindbergh board avoids deficit spending; tax hike brings revenue back to 2008 level.

Lindbergh Chief Financial Officer Pat Lanane said there are three very important facts regarding the district's recently approved $61 million budget. "Number one, this is a balanced budget. Number two, this is a balanced budget. And number three, this is a balanced budget," Lanane reported to the Lindbergh board. The board unanimiously approved the budget for the upcoming school year during its meeting on Tuesday at the district's Early Childhood Education Center. Key to the board's budgetary strategy is ensuring the district does not have any deficit spending, which would require borrowing funds, according to school officials. Crestwood’s April Sales Tax Revenue Lower Than Projected

City Administrator Karl Kestler says in a report that the full effects of the Sears and Barnes & Noble’s closures will be felt later on the year.

According to a report by Karl Kestler, Crestwood’s city administrator, April 2012 sales tax revenues of $575,637 were minus 9.8 percent, or $62,663 less than the $638,300 projected for the month. Kestler, however, adds in his report that for the combined first four months of 2012, sales tax revenues were up by $57,494, or 2.6 percent.  Comparing 2012 results to the same four-month period of 2011, sales tax receipts are up $89,745, or up by 4.2 percent. In his report, Kestler notes that the numbers do not reflect the full effect of the closure of Barnes and Noble, which closed on Dec. 31 of last year, or the pending closure of Sears.   Kestler said the full effect of these closures will most likely not be seen until the later part of the …

Crestwood Board of Aldermen Marks End of Year, Passes Several Bills and Ordinances

Street lights, the 2012 budget, salary adjustments and Crestwood Court all were discussed at length Tuesday night.

Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting started off on a positive note, as Patrolman Jason Balsman received the Lt. John Walsh Award from Police Chief Mike Paillou. Balsman specializes in crisis intervention, and he has been involved in numerous narcotics investigations and committees. “Throughout his career in law enforcement, Officer Balsman can always be counted on to always aggressively enforce the law,” Paillou said when handing Balsman the award.  Who Put the Lights Out? During the public comment portion of the meeting, a citizen who lives in the 8900 block of Lou Court came forward, asking for his subdivision to get a street light. That spot has been without one for more than 40 years, so the citizen did not expect one right away. City …

Sunset Hills’ Aldermen Approve 2012 Budget, Hear Revenue Review Committee Recommendations

The 2012 alternate budget, potential tax increase and contract with St. Louis County all were discussed in last night’s meeting.

Sunset Hills’ Mayor Bill Nolan and the Board of Aldermen adopted the 2012 alternate budget as presented by Alderman Thomas Hrastich of the finance committee in last night’s boardmeeting. Hrastich reported to the board that the city’s revenue from sales tax were up 4.7 percent in 2011, and the city was on track to increase revenue in 2012. The board approved Hrastich’s proposal of a 1.5 percent pay increase for “all receiving an appropriate performance rating” and a $250 year bonus for those in higher ranking positions. These increases will be afforded by cutting $25,000 from the police department’s budget to purchase of new computers and $10,000 from trails in parks. “The city has cut expenses in 2011 to better balance the budget; …
