Crestwood Schnucks Involved in Credit Card Security Breach

The Crestwood Schnucks, 9540 Watson Rd., is among more than 50 St. Louis area stores impacted by the recent security breach. Schnuck says approximately 2.4 million credit and debit cards used at a total of 79 stores may were compromised between December and March. (View the full list of stores affected.) Schnucks customers across St. Louis have found fraudulent charges on their debit and cards. Others have had their cards canceled to prevent fraudulent charges. Schnucks Releases List of Stores Impacted by Debit, Credit Card Security Breach

Schnuck says approximately 2.4 million credit and debit cards used at 79 stores may have been compromised. Check out the list of stores and the latest on the security breach investigation.

Monday morning, Schnucks released its list of St. Louis area stores that were impacted by the recent security breach. As a result of that breach, Schnucks customers across the St. Louis area have found fraudulent charges on their debit and cards. The Schnucks stores on the list (which can be found in the PDF portion of this article along with a timeline issued by Schnucks) are located in a number of Patches throughout St. Louis, St. Charles and surrounding counties. Schnuck says approximately 2.4 million credit and debit cards used at 79 may have been compromised between December and March. ID Theft Cases Tied To Schnucks: Should You Be Concerned?

The Secret Service is not yet officially involved in an investigation, but has advice for worried St. Louis County consumers.

Authorities from jurisdictions around the St. Louis area are confirming reports in recent days that Schnucks, the Maryland Heights-based grocery chain, may have had its credit card collection system compromised, making consumers vulnerable to identity theft. Creve Coeur Police and the St. Louis County Police are some of the agencies which have taken reports. The St. Louis County Wildwood Precinct posted an alert on its Facebook page Wednesday stating the department has taken numerous reports for fraudulent use of a credit device. Police also warned, "You may have seen the news and learned there had been a recent epedemic of these reports throughout St. Louis County and its municipalities. Missouri Offering Tax Refund Debit Cards

Do you want your 2012 tax refund in the form of a debit card from the State of Missouri?

The debit card option is new for Missouri taxpayers this tax season, according to Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel. Zweifel's office released the details of the new option Friday in the following news release. State Treasurer Clint Zweifel (ZWY-ful) announced today citizens have a new option to choose from when getting a tax refund from the State of Missouri. Taxpayers are now able to get a refund in the form of a debit card whether their return is filed on paper or electronically. The new refund option is for taxpayers who file individual income tax returns or Property Tax Credit (PTC) claims. This is the first year the Department of Revenue has offered the refund debit card. Other than that gaffe, it has limited appeal. There are very few people that have the problem of filing income taxes and not having a bank account. I would say that there is a very high probability that those that fit that profile are filing fraudulent returns that generate a refund.
