Fourth Quarter Goalline Misses Too Much To Overcome For Lindbergh In Senior Night Loss To Mehlville

Flyers fall to 3-6, after 14-2 loss, in final home game for seniors.

Like often happens in sports, a close and controversial call that went against the Lindbergh High football team Friday night, might have made the difference, as the Flyers played their final home game of the season at Flyers Field on the Lindbergh campus. Wide receiver-turned quarterback Chuck Houska hit tight end Brad MacKeen for a sprint out pass that looked like a touchdown that would’ve pulled Lindbergh to within seven points early in the fourth quarter. Instead though, the officials ruled that MacKeen didn’t break the plane of the goalline on the 4th-and-goal play, and in fact, did not score, which gave the ball back to visiting Mehlville, which held on for a 14-2 win over the Flyers. “It’s really tough when a call like that goes …

Lindbergh Suffers Playoff Upset, Loses District Opener To St. Mary's

Flyers get two hits and two runs scored from both junior Jordan Harmon and senior Matt Feldt, but still come up short in 5-4 defeat against St. Mary's.

The emotionally thrilling and surprisingly exciting 2012 high school baseball season came to a disappointing and sudden end for the Lindbergh High School baseball team on Saturday, when the Flyers lost their first round district playoff game, 5-4, to St. Mary's Catholic High of St. Louis at LHS' Flyers Field. Lindbergh, which came into the district tournament as the No. 2 seed, was hosting the seventh-seeded Dragons, in a matchup that would earn the winner a trip to the district semifinals and a date with No. 3 seed Rockwood Summit on Monday, with the district championship game scheduled for Tuesday night at the Ballwin Athletic Association. Unfortunately for the Flyers, they won't be seeing either of those games after getting upset by St…

Lindbergh Wallops Mehlville, Claiming Early-Season Tournament Championship

Flyers bash 12 hits, while senior Jay Heller allows just two runs in 15-2 win over rival Mehlville.

SUNSET HILLS -- In a bit of an early-season surprise, and thanks to some red-hot hitting over the first week of the new season, it was the two host schools of the Lindbergh-Mehlville Invitational Baseball Tournament that advanced to Wednesday's championship game at Lindbergh High's Flyers Field Athletic Complex. Lindbergh essentially earned its trip to the title game by pulling off an upset of No. 1-ranked Vianney in the season opener last Saturday, while Mehlville claimed its spot by winning all three of its pool play games against Affton, Hazelwood West, and Oakville. That set up a highly anticipated matchup of two of South County's fiercest rivals. Unfortunately, the heavyweight fight many thought they'd see on Wednesday, didn't really …

Lindbergh Pulls Out Last-Minute Win Over Mehlville

Flyers’ Jordan Goodman throws 70-yard touchdown pass to Grant Krueger with 1:32 left to lead Lindbergh to heart-stopping win.

The Lindbergh Flyers pulled out one of the most exciting wins of the 2011 season Friday night at Flyers Field when senior Jordan Goodman threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to teammate *Grant Krueger with just over a minute left in the game to lead the Flyers to a 20-15 victory over visiting Mehlville. The Panthers had just taken the lead moments earlier when backup quarterback Brendan Moore scored on a 1-yard sneak and teammate Patrick Partee added a two-point conversion run to give Mehlville a 15-14 advantage. But Lindbergh pulled off a near miracle with Goodman’s heave to Krueger that probably saved the Flyers' season, and gives them a shot at making the state playoffs if they can defeat SLUH next Friday night. Mehlville was eliminated from …

I was on pins and needles waiting for this report to come out. What a heart breaking loss for Mehlville. I can see how easily it would be to mix up names considering the intensity of the game on and off the field. Very well written article for both teams. Thanks- Shannon Moore   more ›

Mehlville, Lindbergh All Set For District Football Elimination Game Tonight At Flyers Field

Panthers and Flyers both losers last week, need a win tonight to stay alive in state playoff hunt.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – PREP FOOTBALL GAME PREVIEW Mehlville Panthers (4-4)  vs.  Lindbergh Flyers (5-3) Friday, October 21, 2011 – 7 p.m. – Flyers Field After suffering losses in their district playoff openers last week, perennial South County football powers Mehlville and Lindbergh both find themselves facing elimination from playoff contention, when they meet Friday night at Lindbergh’s Flyers Field. The current Missouri playoff system means only two teams from each district can make the playoffs, and with one loss each already, the team that takes a second defeat will have no shot at all at advancing to the postseason this year. Mehlville played quite possibly its worst game of the year last week, in a 38-0 home loss against SLUH. …
