You can file with the IRS through Monday, but there's still time to request an extension.
If you haven't filed your taxes yet, you have until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2013 to do so, or earlier if you plan on using snail mail. Those who haven't finished completing their returns can get an automatic six-month extension. The fastest and easiest way to get the extra time, the IRS says, is through this Free File link — use the free service to electronically request an automatic tax-filing extension on Form 4868. Do you like to do your taxes in person? Check Patch's directory for some places to get help near Crestwood and Sunset Hills. The IRS announced a delayed start to this year's tax filing season. Here's when you can file, plus some locations near Crestwood and Sunset Hills to get help on your taxes.
You'll have to wait if you are used to filing your annual tax return at the earliest possible date. The Internal Revenue Service has revised its opening date for tax season — pushing it back eight days to Jan. 30, 2013. The tax filing deadline is Monday, April 15, 2013. The IRS will begin accepting tax returns on Jan. 30, 2013. Most taxpayers should be able to file on that date, though some revised forms may not be immediately available. You can blame the delay on the federal "fiscal cliff" crisis and the new tax bill Congress passed just after Dec. 31. You can find more information in this Forbes article. Electronic filing season was originally set to start on Jan. 22 this year. As a result of the delay, nobody will get a refund in …

The IRS has extended the 2012 tax filing deadline to April 17.
Once again this year, the Internal Revenue Service is giving taxpayers extra time to file their tax returns, thanks to Emancipation Day. Last year, it was an extra weekend, this year, the IRS is extending the filing deadline to Tuesday, April 17. The IRS made the announcement Wednesday on its website. According to the press release, the deadline to file 2011 tax returns and pay any tax due is extended from April 15 to April 17 because April 15 falls on a Sunday, and Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, falls on Monday, April 16. The IRS stated in the release that federal law requires District of Columbia holidays to impact tax deadlines the same as federal holidays do so taxpayers get the two-day extension. The…

But Feds Extend IRS deadline until April 18 and a local tax preparer offers 35 percent discount.
No more mad midnight dash April 15 to the local post office for a postmark to satisfy the tax collector—the Internal Revenue Service. With fewer people filing paper returns now, and dwindling revenue for the U.S. Postal Service, local post offices will no longer offer extended hours for procrastinators. Only the main post office at 1720 Market St. in St. Louis will provide curbside drop-off. On top of that, the familiar April 15 deadline for filing federal and state tax returns is April 18 this year. It's three days later thanks to a holiday celebrated in the District of Columbia—Emancipation Day. It marks the day President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act in 1862, making free persons of about 3,100 in the district…
