Crestwood MMA Fighter is Headed to St. Louis Boxing Hall of Fame

You might remember Jesse Finney as the MMA fighter who subdued a suspected shoplifter at the Schnuck's Market in Crestwood and held him until police arrived.

Jesse Finney is having a good year. The Crestwood mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and gym owner is being inducted into the St. Louis Boxing Hall of Fame, and his martial arts gyms are expanding. Finney gained some prominence in the St. Louis area last December for a different sort of physical altercation when he took down and subdued a suspected shoplifter at the Schnuck's Market in Crestwood and held him until police arrived. Finney is the founder and head coach of Finney’s MMA, 9744 Watson Rd., Crestwood, and a former boxer, kick boxer, mixed martial arts fighter and promoter. Crestwood MMA Fighter Hosting New 101 ESPN Radio Show

All In 1 Fitness/Finney's MMA owner Jesse Finney will co-host a Saturday radio show starting this week. He made national headlines last month for taking down a shoplifter at a Crestwood grocery store.

You may have heard Jesse Finney's crimefighting story last month. But starting this weekend, listeners of 101 ESPN WXOS Radio will have a chance to hear the retired kickboxer every weekend.  Finney owns Finney’s MMA/All In 1 Fitness in Crestwood, and along with Chad Range, will host "MMA Hit Squad” Saturday nights from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The program will "preview upcoming fights, talk to fan favorites, and give the thousands of fans in St. Louis - one of America’s premiere fight towns - a place that feeds their love of this hybrid of boxing, wrestling, jujitsu, and other fight disciplines," according to a release from the radio station.  Finney told Knuckle Junkies that they will also dedicate air time to getting youths interested in martial…

Fenton Man Will Fight to Win on MMA Reality TV Show

Adam Cella was announced as one of 28 professional fighters to participate in the upcoming season of "Ultimate Fighter" on FX.

A St. Louis-area man was announced Wednesday as one of 28 participants to spar in the upcoming season of FX's "Ultimate Fighter," which debuts Tuesday, Jan. 22. Middleweight fighter Adam Cella, who trains at Finney's MMA in Crestwood, will compete against international contestants for the chance to earn an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) contract.   The 27-year-old is 4-0 in his professional MMA career and also dabbled in kickboxing. Cella, who grew up in Imperial, told Knuckle Junkies last year it was his "goal to get on TV." This season's contestants will be coached by current UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones and contender Chael Sonne. How to Respond to A Crime--If You're Not an MMA Fighter

After a professionally trained kickboxer and MMA fighter stopped a shoplifter at a Crestwood grocery store, Police Chief Mike Paillou advises residents how they can help when witnessing a crime.

Last month a professional kickboxer and MMA fighter, who trains other pros at his Crestwood gym, detained a man stealing vodka from the Watson Road Schnucks.  "Jesse Finney is a highly trained individual, he is not the average resident," Crestwood Police Chief Mike Paillou said. "I would never recommend a resident get involved in a physical confrontation with a suspect." The department hasn't seen many instances of bystanders stepping in during crimes in action, he said. "A good samaritan stepped in and got killed at Starbucks, which is quite possibly what could happen when an untrained individual gets involved," Paillou said.
