'Good Interest' Shown in Johnny's Market Building

Real estate representative says the former neighborhood grocery store has been shown to three groups so far.

If you ever wanted to own your own grocery store, Will Aschinger of the Hilliker Corporation has a deal for you. You'll have all the checkout lanes to yourself. No waiting. No limit on the number of items allowed. Aschnger is the real estate agent showing the former Johnny's Market grocery store building to prospective buyers. The property, located at 11555 Gravois Road in Sappington, is 20,693 square feet in area and is on a 2.43-acre site. Aschinger views his role in the sale of Johnny's as the sale of a local landmark. The store had been in business for 68 years, first opening its doors when owners John and Adel Loeffelman started the store in 1944. the small, neighborhood grocery featured a variety of local produce and other foods. …

Crestwood Bowl Sign Shines Anew on Watson Road

A Route 66 preservation grant helped the bowling alley restore their sign. Plus, customers now have the chance to bid on the Johnny's Market sign.

By day, you won't notice the change Crestwood Bowl made over the weekend. But drive on Watson Road at night and bask in the neon glow of their sign once more. The sign, which went dark just a couple years ago, was Crestwood Bowl was able to restore the neon with a partial grant from the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program.  The bowling alley celebrated the rejuvenation of the sign with a re-lighting ceremony Saturday evening, complete with music, classic cars, and some Route 66-themed cakes.  "This is the kind of thing that revitalizes the community, and keeps our history alive," said Ward I Alderman Mimi Duncan.  (Check out photos of the celebration on the bowling alley's Facebook page.)   In other sign news...
