The Sunset Hills bar made a cameo in the first episode of DIY Network's "Renovation Rebels," which features the crew of Oakville-based L.J. Remodeling.
Mile 277 is getting its 15 minutes of reality TV fame--sort of. The Sunset Hills bar and grill can be spotted in a new pilot on DIY Network this month. South County resident John Stanley and his crew of craftsmen at Oakville-based L.J. Remodeling visited during the taping of “Renovation Rebels,” which debuted this weekend. KC Ash said the crew regularly stop by the restaurant on their bikes. (Check out some photos of the guys' visit on Mile 277's Facebook page.) Stanley tackles a 'retro' kitchen remodel in the premiere episode. Stanley completed a remodel job for St. Louis-based Cool Fire Media around seven years ago, and said the production company recommended him when DIY Network inquired about potential hosts. The show will follow his …

These entities in Crestwood and Sunset Hills are active on Facebook's news feed.
Sunset Hills-Crestwood Patch's Facebook page has a bustling news feed of awesome events, posts, shares and photos from across the area. Here are my five picks for pages not just to look out for, but to "like" (other than ours, of course). 1. Looks like he's open Memorial Day weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for bookings. 2. Mile 277 From posting photos of their calendar model search to cool motorcycles, this page has great information regarding upcoming bands and events. Throw in a quirky status update every once in a while, and this page has me traveling to Lindbergh and Watson for a …

Board of Aldermen approved several requests to hold events in this week’s meeting.
Sunset Hills’ Board of Aldermen unanimously agreed to allow Mile 277 at the Holiday Inn Viking, Panera, LLC and Smugala’s host their upcoming summer events. A representative from each business answered members’ questions regarding possible security, parking and noise level concerns in this week’s meeting. Alderman Art Havener asked Keith Rhodes, co-owner of Mile 277, to further explain Thunder Alley’s, a local security company, experience in patrolling events at the venue. Alderman Thomas Musich inquired about parking availability, history of noise disturbances and the safety of the tents used during events. Rhodes reassured the aldermen that all potential issues had been resolved and was given permission to move forward in the planning …

Sunset Hills and Crestwood are contrasting communities with a bright future ahead.
This past week I covered for the Sunset Hills-Crestwood Patch site while its editor, Alyssa Stahr, was on a very-well deserved vacation. Having covered Town and Country, Kirkwood and Webster Groves Patch sites before, I felt confident I could cover Sunset Hills and Crestwood swiftly, but then the realization hit me that I knew absolutely nothing about these two Southern St. Louis County municipalities. After a week of doing my best to bring you relevant news about Sunset Hills and Crestwood, I feel I leave with a desire to follow up on both of these cities. They have some problems and a tremendous potential. Economic difficulties When I first arrived to this country, I recall how puzzled and overwhelmed I felt going to the Chesterfield …

A contest is underway at Mile 277 Tap & Grill to find local models for its calendar. Every Thursday night, different girls compete for the prize.
Last Thursday night, the stage at Mile 277 Tap & Grill turned into a runway for the restaurant’s Calendar Girl Model Search. Six volunteer contestants participated in three modeling rounds as patrons and judges voted for their favorite. Out of the six contestants, two made it to the next round. Every Thursday night, the Sunset Hills restaurant will hold a contest with a different set of girls until they have reached the 12 girls that will be on their calendar. Thursday night was week four of the contest. On week seven, the 12 girls will compete to become the cover girl of the Mile 277 calendar. The cover girl will also receive a $1,000 cash prize. The restaurant had somewhat of a club atmosphere as strobe lights, artificial fog and DJ …

Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen delay their vote on the conditional use permit and plan at owner’s request.
Keith Rhodes, co-owner of Mile 277 at the Holiday Inn Viking, sent a letter on Monday requesting the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen to postpone their decision in regards to the expansion of a sand volleyball court and concession building to the existing venue. Reasons for the request are unknown at this time. The Planning and Zoning Commission members denied Rhodes’ conditional use permit and plan in a meeting earlier in this month after hearing arguments by several Office Park tenants. Excessive drinking and noise, parking shortages, possible litter and diminished access to the office park were mentioned as concerns if an outdoor court is added to the current location. Nevertheless, members voted in favor of events being hosted at Mile …

Sunset Hills' Planning and Zoning Commission denied the conditional use permit due to nearby office park opposition.
After reaching its one-year anniversary, Mile 277 at the Holiday Inn-Viking co-owner Keith Rhodes thought it was time for an expansion. Rhodes argued that there was a need for a first-class sand volleyball facility in the area. Plans for a venue were made, however at the March Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, not everyone agreed that an outdoor court was a good idea. Several tenants of the Sunset Hills Office Park spoke in opposition of the volleyball venue at the March meeting. Opposing arguments included noise level, excessive drinking, parking, possible litter and diminished access to the office park. At the March meeting, Rhodes asked for the vote to be postponed until he could have an informal informational meeting with his …
