St. Louis County Library Renovations Slated for 2014

Taxes generated by the new property tax will fund several upgrades, including new buildings and other renovations for some South County library branches.

Last month a majority of St. Louis County voters said yes to Prop L, but it will be a while before they see upgrades to library infrastructure, Suburban Journals reports. The library board will spend the majority of 2013 planning for renovations outlined in their master plan, but the library won't see money generated by the new tax until 2014, according to the report. The master plan proposes $76.9 million in construction of new libraries, $12.7 million in existing building renovations, and another $9 million in upgrades. In the South County area, new library buildings are recommended to replace the existing the Tesson Ferry Branch library, 9920 Lin Ferry Drive., and the Meramec Valley Branch, 625 New Smizer…

It turns many regular folks off, so you can play mister moral all you want. Libraries are not homeless shelters. I am not referring to unemployed folks -- who very well can use library services. Upgrades to Oak Bend Branch, New Library in Fenton if Proposition L Is Okayed

The Oak Bend branch is slated for $1 million in upgrades. A new Meramec Valley Branch library building would replace the current small rented space.

St. Louis County Library Board of Trustees commissioned Aaron Cohen Associates Ltd. to develop the library's facilities master plan. What emerged in February was a 10-year program of major improvements, new library construction and program enhancements that would modernize the library system in what Aaron Cohen Associates calls a "bold vision for the future."  The vision includes a priority list of recommended construction projects to be completed in the next ten years at a potential cost of $108.4 million. Kienstra Big Winner, Englund and Bee Nearly Even

Lindbergh School Board of Education returns two incumbents and former state legislator with close race among six for three seats.

Kathleen Kienstra of Grantwood Village, Donald Bee of Fenton and Vicki Lorenz Englund of Concord took the top three spots out of a field of six candidates, which included runners up Joseph Sartorious of Affton, Leslie Weiss of Concord, and George Rezabek of Sunset Hills. Kienstra led the race with 4,346 votes or 21.03 percent of the vote, followed by Bee with 3,784 votes or 18.31 percent and Englund with 3,711 votes or 17.95 percent. All 40 precincts were counted by 10:30pm. A term is 3 years. Kienstra, an assistant professor at Saint Louis University and director for the university's radiation therapy program, supported Proposition L, which passed in November.
