Crestwood Stylist Fighting Bill to Eliminate Cosmetology License Requirement
Heather Hoy, who works at Frederick's Beauty Etc., says the proposed bill would jeapordize the entire industry and its customers. She has started an online petition to oppose the measure.
A proposed bill that would eliminate the state cosmetology licensing requirement has many in the profession up in arms. In fact, one Crestwood cosmetologist has started an online petition opposing the measure. "Not only does it impact my career and my passion negatively, but it can also put the general public at a health risk," Heather (Wingbermuehle) Hoy said in an email to Patch. Hoy, a hair stylist at Frederick's Beauty Etc., explained that obtaining her license required her to take classes on proper sanitation, how to recognize different types of disease/fungus on the hair, skin and nails and how to use chemicals. Woman Robbed at Gunpoint in River City Casino Parking Garage
The suspect took the 63-year-old woman's purse and then fled in her car. Police later spotted the vehicle, chased it into North County and arrested four juveniles.
A 63-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint Friday night at a parking garage at River City Casino at 777 River City Casino Dr. The woman told St. Louis County police that the suspect displayed a gun and took her purse and 2012 Hyundai Sonata. She and her 61-year-old friend were not injured. Information on the vehicle was broadcast to surrounding police departments. Police later spotted the vehicle, chased it into unincorporated North County and arrested four juveniles, who were taken to the St. Louis County Juvenile Justice Center. The stolen items were recovered, but gun was not found at the scene. Police are continuing to investigate.

Woman Who Killed Grandmother Might Face Upgraded Charges
The case is now set for the Grand Jury at which time the additional information will be presented and upgraded charges will be considered.

St. Louis County Police have requested upgraded charges against Rachel Armstrong after her grandmother died following Armstrong's attack. Armstrong, 37, of the 10000 block of Golf Crest in South County, was previously charged with first-degree elder abuse after throwing down her grandmother and stomping on her, breaking both her arms and eight ribs on Nov. 12. Armstrong told police she believed her grandmother was a demon and confessed to the attack. A 92-year-old woman, who was allegedly stomped by her granddaughter Rachel Armstrong in November, died from her injuries on Monday at an area hospital, according to a report from KSDK. Armstrong, of the 10000 block of Golf Crest in South County's Sappington area, is accused of throwing down her elderly grandmother and stomping on her, breaking both her arms and eight ribs on Nov. 12. I'm sure you're feeling bad, Kathy, but sometimes we can't prevent these awful things from happening except in hindsight. Updated: South County Woman Attacks Grandmother She Thought Was a Demon
The 92-year-old woman suffered two broken arms and eight broken ribs, according to a St. Louis County Police report.
A South St. Louis County woman is accused of throwing down her 92-year-old grandmother and stomping on her, breaking both her arms and eight ribs Nov. 12. Rachel Armstrong, 37, of the 10000 block of Golf Crest in South County's Sappington area, was charged Thursday with first-degree elder abuse. St. Louis County Police said Armstrong admitted to throwing down her grandmother and stomping on the woman Nov. 12, also in the 10000 block of Golf Crest. Armstrong told police she believed her grandmother was a demon, according to a report from KMOV. Armstrong was being held Tuesday in St. Louis County jail. Bail was set at $75,000, cash only. A state license gives the consumer an expectation of a standard of cleanliness, service, and knowledge on the part of the stylist/salon. To eliminate that would leave the consumer vulnerable to more than just a bad haircut. My mother was a stylist for 30 years in Illinois and state inspections of salons there were an annual event. Continuing education for stylists was required to keep a license. … more ›
