High School Wars: Perception Versus Academic Reality
Our family's high school choice teaches us a lesson about how communities may rate educational opportunities.
As a St. Louis native, I know that choosing a high school is a big deal. So the pressure is on when an eighth-grader is in the house. I thought it would get easier to decide, but now that my third child is looking for schools, there are still as many questions as there are answers. Our family policy was to allow an "A" student to choose a private or public school. My son opted for a Catholic school, St. John Vianney, where he is now a senior. My older daughter had little interest in private schools, and enrolled in Kirkwood High, which seems to have been a very good fit.
