Fourth Quarter Goalline Misses Too Much To Overcome For Lindbergh In Senior Night Loss To Mehlville

Flyers fall to 3-6, after 14-2 loss, in final home game for seniors.

Like often happens in sports, a close and controversial call that went against the Lindbergh High football team Friday night, might have made the difference, as the Flyers played their final home game of the season at Flyers Field on the Lindbergh campus. Wide receiver-turned quarterback Chuck Houska hit tight end Brad MacKeen for a sprint out pass that looked like a touchdown that would’ve pulled Lindbergh to within seven points early in the fourth quarter. Instead though, the officials ruled that MacKeen didn’t break the plane of the goalline on the 4th-and-goal play, and in fact, did not score, which gave the ball back to visiting Mehlville, which held on for a 14-2 win over the Flyers. “It’s really tough when a call like that goes …

Lindbergh Secures Homecoming Victory

The Lions commit three critical miscues in the final five minutes that lead to three touchdowns for the Flyers. Don't forget to check out our photos from the game on Facebook!

A good old-fashioned smash-mouth, defensive struggle of a football game became a rather convincing Homecoming Night victory for Lindbergh on Friday night, as the Flyers scored three touchdowns in the final five minutes to defeat Suburban West Conference rival Northwest, 26-6. Both teams had their struggles with turnovers and sloppy play, but Lindbergh's Garrett Krueger made big play after big play all night for the Flyers, including an unofficial stat count of 242 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns to lead his club to the win. It was his fumble return for a touchdown that got Lindbergh on the board in the first quarter, and Krueger's 1-yard plunge through the line in the fourth quarter that gave the Flyers the lead for good in a victory …

Mehlville, Lindbergh All Set For District Football Elimination Game Tonight At Flyers Field

Panthers and Flyers both losers last week, need a win tonight to stay alive in state playoff hunt.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – PREP FOOTBALL GAME PREVIEW Mehlville Panthers (4-4)  vs.  Lindbergh Flyers (5-3) Friday, October 21, 2011 – 7 p.m. – Flyers Field After suffering losses in their district playoff openers last week, perennial South County football powers Mehlville and Lindbergh both find themselves facing elimination from playoff contention, when they meet Friday night at Lindbergh’s Flyers Field. The current Missouri playoff system means only two teams from each district can make the playoffs, and with one loss each already, the team that takes a second defeat will have no shot at all at advancing to the postseason this year. Mehlville played quite possibly its worst game of the year last week, in a 38-0 home loss against SLUH. …

Lindbergh’s Beauchamp Hits Century Mark With Win Over Marquette

Both teams struggle offensively, but the Flyers turn breaks into points in a 20-0 win over the Mustangs.

SUNSET HILLS–Lindbergh head football coach Tom Beauchamp earned the 100th victory of his 17-year coaching career on Friday night when the Flyers outlasted visiting Marquette, 20-0, in a matchup of surging Suburban West Conference teams at Lindbergh’s Flyers Field. Beauchamp took over as head man of the Lindbergh program in the mid-90s, after serving for many years as the defensive coordinator at Mehlville. In his Lindbergh career, Beauchamp has led the Flyers to six conference championships, more than a dozen playoff appearances, and even a trip to the Show-Me Bowl state championship game in 2002. But few victories in his career left the coach as prideful as win No. 100 did on “Pink Out Night” at Lindbergh, in which the entire Flyers team…

Lindbergh Loses Heartbreaker to Lafayette in Overtime

The Flyers fall 24-21 in overtime as Lafayette kicks a 27-yard field goal and hangs in the extra session.

Lafayette junior Daniel Menees blasted home a 27-yard field goal on the first possession of overtime, then watched as his teammates on defense held off host Lindbergh for a thrilling 24-21 victory at Flyers Field. Lindbergh led by a touchdown with just under four minutes left in regulation, but Lafayette’s Deonte Robinson scored on a two-yard run, and Menees added the extra point to tie the score at 21. Flyers senior quarterback Peter Simpson threw two touchdown passes in the losing effort, while his counterpart, Lafayette senior Dominic Bisesi, connected on a scoring toss of his own and also led the Lancers on its game-tying drive in the final minutes of regulation play. Lindbergh High Releases 2011 Football Schedule

The Flyers open their season on Friday, Aug. 26, at Oakville, and their home opener is Sept. 2 against Lafayette.

With the first day of fall practice set for Monday, Aug. 8, and the first day of school slated for Aug. 15, the Lindbergh High Athletics Department began the official start of its 2011-2012 sporting year by releasing its 2011 varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen football schedules. The three teams, which will play a combined 38 games in 2011, are all set for their first official training camp workouts at 7:30 a.m. on Monday. The Lindbergh varsity will be the first to take the field in 2011, when the Flyers travel to Oakville on Aug. 26 to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. In last year’s season opener, Lindbergh played one of its best defensive games of the entire season, holding Oakville to less than 100 yards of total offense while then-…

Lindbergh Soccer Snaps Skid, Shuts Down Kirkwood

Junior Annie Schwartz's first half putback is just enough in the Flyers' 1-0 win over Kirkwood.

To say that Lindbergh coach Mark Giesing was relieved that his Flyers finally won a game, a 1-0 decision over Kirkwood on Wednesday, would be a bit of an understatement. The victory ended a four-game losing streak. Giesing was so excited he high-fived nearly every member of the team, and emphatically shook hands with his assistant coaches, both game officials, and just about anybody else that came his way when the game was over. “I am happy,” Giesing said. “Because we got back to what works for us, which is a possession-style of soccer. The girls really moved the ball around well, particularly in the first half when we got the goal.” Actually, Lindbergh possessed the ball for most of the night, and didn’t allow Kirkwood many chances at all…

Lindbergh Loses Lead to Lafayette as Slide Continues

Lindbergh can't hang on to a 2-0 lead, and falls 3-2 to Lafayette for the Flyers' fourth straight defeat.

Everyone dislikes seeing a game determined by a referee's call. But according to Lindbergh coach Mark Giesing, it wasn't the call, or the resulting penalty kick and goal, which ultimately cost his Flyers on Tuesday night. It was the Flyers’ reaction to that goal, Giesing said, that hurt his team the most in Lindbergh’s 3-2 home loss against Lafayette. Lindbergh was up 2-0 in the Suburban West Conference contest. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Lindbergh junior Rachel Marchi collided spectacularly with Lafayette junior Danielle Tolmais at the top of Lindbergh's box. The call went Lafayette's way, and sophomore Angela Black popped in the penalty kick. The goal seemed to take the life out of the Flyers, who went on to lose their final …

Suburban West Roundup: Lindbergh Poised For League Showdown

Lindbergh and Parkway South are battling for the top spot in the Suburban West baseball race.

Our weekly look at the latest news and notes from the Suburban West Conference: The wacky world of the Suburban West Conference in baseball this spring was shown last week in four games played by Lindbergh. The Flyers seemed to play themselves out of the conference race with losses on Tuesday and Wednesday to Northwest, which entered the series with a 1-8 mark. Ryan Roth had two hits and two runs batted in and pitched two scoreless and hitless innings while striking out four in a 6-3 Lions win on Tuesday. Northwest came from behind the next day, scoring six runs in the final three innings in a 7-5 win. But Lindbergh righted itself on Thursday and Friday with a two-game sweep of Oakville, which had been in second place in the conference. …

Lindbergh Still Contending For Title in Suburban West

Roundup: Lindbergh is not out of the conference title hunt, although the Flyers’ hopes were hurt by a 5-4 loss to Fox.

An unbeaten record at this point of the high school baseball season is indeed a rarity. Parkway South has yet to taste defeat in 2011, after winning a pair of tight games over Lafayette last week. But Lindbergh is not out of the picture for a conference title, although the Flyers’ were hurt by a 5-4 loss to Fox last Wednesday. That snapped a seven-game Lindbergh winning streak. The seventh win for the Flyers was last Tuesday in a 10-0 win over Fox as Jordan Harmon and Conor Irwin combined for a two-hitter while Kendall Helbert had a home run and drove in five runs to pace the offense.  Lindbergh is 6-2 in the league and 10-4 overall. The Parkway South Patriots were coming off of a sweep of Mehlville over the weekend to stay undefeated. …
