The Ku Klux Klan left flyers for Target shoppers, inviting them to learn more about the group.
The Ku Klux Klan is recruiting at Mehlville's Target. The group left flyers on cars at the South County Target store complete with the KKK logo and drawings of figures in white hoods. "We're bringing back the traditional ways of the Ku Klux Klan to the modern day!" the flyer reads. Imperial Wizard/President Frank Ancona, of the Traditionalist American Knights Ku Klux Klan, said he didn't know exactly who handed out the flyers in South County today, but he says he isn't surprised. "The reports I'm getting from the local people in that area (South St. Louis County) say that there's been an increase in black-on-white crime and robbery and child abductions," Ancona said. Thousands are signing an online petition protesting Target's plans to open at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving to offer Black Friday sales. Similar efforts are surfacing for other retailers including Best Buy, Old Navy, and Kohl's.
The petition was reportedly created by a Target employee upset that the retail giant is opening on Thanksgiving and requiring employees to work instead of spending time with their families. Target stores, including the one in Kirkwood, will open their doors at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving. As of Tuesday morning, there are more than 179,000 signatures on the petition. (Check out the petition here.) Target is joining other retailers, inlcuding Walmart, that are opening on Thanksgiving to get a jump on Black Friday holiday shoppers. Many St. Louis-area big box retail stores are hiring seasonal workers to help handle the holiday shopping season.
Thousands of jobs are on the way to St. Louis as big-box retail stores such as Walmart and Target are set to hire seasonal employees in anticipation of the holiday shopping rush. According to a St. Louis Business Journal report, Walmart plans on hiring more than 50,000 seasonal employees, although it's not sure how many of those jobs will be for the store's 20 St. Louis-area locations. Walmart's not the only store hiring. Many of the Christmas season's go-to stores are also looking for seasonal help. The Business Journal reports that Target is set to hire between 80,000 to 90,000 workers across the country, while Kohl's plans to hire 52,000 workers. The Target at Lindbergh and Big Bend is participating in the trade-in offer that gives customers a store credit for their used electronics.
If you have an iPad, iPhone or iPad that you are ready to get rid of, take it to Target and the store will give you a gift card in return for the device. The Lindbergh Blvd. store is participating in the trade-in offer. Telephone sales rep Jessica Edwards from the Sunset Hills store said that their store participates in this offer year-round. Customers can trade-in online or in-stores. If customers come to this location, they should check in at the kiosk in the electronics section. According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Target is offering the deal at more than 1,450 retail locations through a partnership with NextWorth. The offer for select stores runs through Feb. 11.
