Mary Beth Gable, owner of MEG Accounting and Tax Services in Sunset Hills, pleaded guilty to stealing $19,869 from a South County pub owner. The accounting business closed just before the tax deadline.
A Sunset Hills accounting business closed abruptly last week just days before the tax deadline. Its owner was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing $19,869 from a client. Mary Beth Gable, 55, owner of MEG Accounting and Tax Services at 10345 Watson Rd., pleaded guilty to the theft charge in February. Gable, of the 12400 block of Chrisann Lane in Sunset Hills, was sentenced on March 29. Customers were asked to pick up their tax files from Gable's business by April 12. No one was in the office when a Patch editor stopped by on April 15, and the business phone number has since been disconnected. Here's an item from the Sunset Hills Police Department.
Someone stole $124 in change from a vending machine at Conservative Financial Services, 10805 Sunset Office Dr., according to Sunset Hills Police. The suspect had to take apart the coin mechanism to retrieve the cash, and apparently didn't bring a bag for the haul--police said the coin mechanism was also stolen.

A man is accused of stealing two gold American Eagle coins, valued at $1,796, from his girlfriend’s mother in Sunset Hills. Curtis Adam Hines, 23, of the 7100 block of Ivanhoe Street in Affton, was charged March 20 with felony theft. Sunset Hills Police said the woman reported the two coins stolen from a safe in her residence in the 12400 block of Maret Drive in Sunset Hills between 6:30 a.m. Jan. 18 and 5:30 p.m. Jan. 19. The owner told police she suspected Hines, her daughter’s boyfriend, who had been staying at her home at the time the coins disappeared. Sunset Hills Police said the woman cleaned the home the same day the rings went missing. Police found she also pawned earrings belonging to the victim, according to court documents.
A house cleaner is accused of stealing a wedding ring set valued at $14,800 from a Sunset Hills home. Tara Thomas, 37, of the 100 block of Margaux Court in St. Charles County, was charged by the St. Louis County Prosecutor’s Office Feb. 21 with felony stealing. Sunset Hills Police said Thomas cleaned the home Dec. 12, the same day the rings went missing. An investigation showed Thomas pawned some earrings belonging to the woman who owned the wedding ring set. Police said Thomas also pawned the rings for $325. Bail was set at $10,000 for Thomas. A shoplifter left Kohl’s with a watch and necklace valued at $170. 10: A window in Crestwood Court was struck with a BB. 14: Two individuals were taken into custody for attempting to steal clothes and jewelry from Kohl's valued at $49. 16: Someone smashed the window out of a 2012 GMC pickup truck parked at a restaurant on the 9800 block of Watson Road and took a GPS unit and 32-caliber Beretta.
