The latest discussion on the Watson Road mall, and updates on several new businesses, pending requests, and closing businesses.
The owners of Crestwood Court are in a push toward development, and their eye is on the 2014 holiday season. Representatives laid out their tentative deadlines for the development process as they asked Aldermen to approve a preliminary funding agreement to consider TIF funding for the project. They’re hoping to begin construction mid-year 2013. The aldermen approved a revised RFP allowing the developers 30 days to submit their proposal. The approval of a preliminary funding agreement doesn’t exactly kick off the TIF process. It offers developers the option of submitting proposals that would utilize TIF funding, but the city is not obligated to create a TIF district for the property at this time. Aldermen will discuss the preliminary …

With Sappington Farmers’ Market closing on Aug. 24, where can South County residents now look for Missouri-grown foods? Patch lists 10 farmers' markets and local food grocers.
The Sappington Farmers' Market, 8400 Watson Rd., announced less than a week ago that they'd be closing shop on Aug. 24, and it already seems to have put a wrench in the routines of several St. Louis residents who prefer to buy local. It may not be goodbye forever. Management have not announced any future plans, but said in a statement they are “continuing to look for opportunities for other store locations in the region.” You can still hope to snag some of the market's remaining inventory for 20 percent off, but where will loyal customers go when Farmer Fred waves goodbye later this month? Some Sunset Hills-Crestwood Patch Facebook fans suggested alternative sources of locally-grown food as the aisles thin out, listed below. Patch has …

Mile 277, Holiday Inn, and Shell were among Lindbergh Boulevard businesses who spoke against the traffic changes that would come with a new gas station and convenience store just south of Interstate 44.
Sunset Hills planning and zoning commission members recommended a conditional use permit and preliminary development plan for a proposed Petro Mart at 1430 S. Kirkwood Rd., just south of access ramps to Interstate 44. Representatives of Petro Mart argued that the creation of their development would bring traffic improvements to the stretch of road--other Lindbergh Boulevard businesses were more skeptical of its potential impact during Wednesday night's meeting. The problem was not the gas station itself, but the changes to Lindbergh Boulevard that were recommended in a traffic study, and again by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), that raised the eyebrows of Mile 277, Holiday Inn, and Shell/Circle K management. It was …

Kentucky Fried Chicken is the latest in a downhill slide along Watson Road.
The sign on the door of the Watson Road Kentucky Fried Chicken said “Thank you for Letting Us Serve You For the Past 25 Years.” A quarter of a century of business has now seemingly disappeared without a trace, and a leasing sign is in the front yard. Residents of Crestwood have taken notice this week, however. Sunset Hills-Crestwood Patch received emails from three readers asking what went wrong. Phil Corpening wrote: “My friend I live here in Crestwood, Mo. and after church I was going to drive by there and get some chicken. However, the place is closed. Why? This was a great place and the food was so nice. Crestwood needs to build up." Interim City Administrator Karl Krestler said that the KFC experienced a problem with its building …

I use the center median to cross into the Shell station when going north on Lindbergh. Things are already messy enough there, I imagine they will be more so if the raised median is installed.   more ›
