Peanut Butter Dog Treats Benefit Crestwood Animals

$1 of every purchase of Lucy's Home Baked Dog Treats at Wired Coffee will benefit the Crestwood Animal Control shelter.

Wired Coffee owner Sue Hamer is now offering a treat for customers' canine friends. Lucy's Home Baked Dog Treats are specially prepared by Hamer at her home, and available in peanut butter.  Cookies are $1.50 per package, with $1 of each purchase benefiting the shelter.  Another way to help the shelter: Animal Control Officer Nancy Hunt is currently trying to reunite a terrier male found near Blackburn Park with his family.

The End of the World in Sunset Hills: Two Ways to Celebrate December 21, 2012

Party the end of days away on Lindbergh Boulevard--attend a doomsday book discussion at Wired Coffee with T.W. Fendley, or rock out with Glorious Blue at Mile 277.

Do you think something big is in store for Dec. 21, 2012? So do two Lindbergh Boulevard businesses, which have scheduled 'end of the world' events to coincide with the turning of the Mayan calendar this Friday.  Wired Coffee hosts a book signing with Chesterfield author T.W. Fendley, whose science-fiction work “Zero Time” mixes Mayan prophecy with time travel. Meet her at the Sunset Hills coffee shop from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., 3860 S. Lindbergh Blvd. Fendley doesn’t think doomsday is headed our way, but does believe the date indicates the beginning of a new time cycle. She contacted Wired owner Sue Hamer to hold a Dec. 21 event. “It started out as a book signing, but I wanted it to be more than that, because it really is a time to celebrate…

Wired Coffee Hosts Art by Mark Swain

The coffee shop will have an art opening for Mark Swain, November's featured artist.

Each month Wired Coffee invites a different artist to display their work on the cafe wall. This month's featured artist is Mark Swain of Buffalo Moon Arts. His colorful works are inspired by Native American spirituality. Of Native American descent, Mark walks “the Red Road,” observing Native traditions and sacred ways. His intense love of the natural world, his fluency with mystical experiences, and his awareness that “everything is alive” lend depth, intensity, and anima to his pieces. Mark’s Native ancestry informs his artistic vision and in particular, his brilliant works in leather. The spirits of his Native elders breathe their inspiration and regard for the sacred earth into him, and work through him to shape each unique and powerful…

Five Local Pages to 'Like' on Facebook

These entities in Crestwood and Sunset Hills are active on Facebook's news feed.

Sunset Hills-Crestwood Patch's Facebook page has a bustling news feed of awesome events, posts, shares and photos from across the area. Here are my five picks for pages not just to look out for, but to "like" (other than ours, of course).  1. Shaggy Sounds DJ Services, LLC Owner Mike Kempf uses Facebook as a microphone, using social media as a tool for shout outs, location information and more. Looks like he's open Memorial Day weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for bookings.  2. Mile 277 From posting photos of their calendar model search to cool motorcycles, this page has great information regarding upcoming bands and events. Throw in a quirky status update every once in a while, and this page has me traveling to Lindbergh and Watson for a …

Food Fight: White Castle Cravers Dig the Coffee, Too

Coffee at the castle is tops in the coffee version of the Patch South County Food Fight poll.

No fancy lattes or cappuccinos here. Those who crave a burger often crave a White Castle slider, or even a sack of them and somer aslo crave the coffee. Who knew? White Castle ended up on top of the heap of places in South County to grap a good cup of java. The votes are in and counted in the latest South County Patch Food Fight, where we take reader's nomination for their favorite places to find their favorite foods. We've asked about pizza, burgers, doughnuts and French fries. This week we were seeking the place that serves up the best coffee. There were a couple of coffee shops among the nominations - Wired Coffee in Sunset Hills and Perk It Up in Oakville - as well as an old style diner, Eat Rite (or don't eat at all), in Affton. And …
