Crestwood Court Conversation Reignites With New Aldermen

See what the Crestwood and Sunset Hills boards will be discussing at their May 14 meetings.

Tuesday night the Crestwood Board of Aldermen will have their first discussion on mall redevelopment with its four newly elected members. Board members will review an agreement with PGAV Planners for planning services. The previous board appointed Centrum Partners as the site's developer last year, but declined to move forward with PGAV for planning services. If the agreement is approved, the city will be able to move forward in deciding whether to grant Centrum Partners tax assistance to fund the project. Crestwood and Sunset Hills voters go to the polls Tuesday to elect aldermen. One board member for the Mehlville Fire District, which covers parts of Sunset Hills, will also be elected. Voters in the Lindbergh School District will be deciding on candidates to fill two seats on the district's Board of Education. This is the place where we'll be updating vote totals as they come in on contested races after polls close at 7 p.m. Crestwood Ward 1 candidate Richard Breeding, Sunset Hills Ward 2 candidate Scott Haggerty and Sunset Hills Ward 3 candidate Jan Hoffmann are running uncontested. Snow Patrol: Roads OK in Crestwood, Sunset Hills

Authorities aren't reporting any major problems on the roadways, but urge motorists to slow down and take it easy. Plus, here is another weather-related note.

Authorities say the roads in Crestwood and Sunset Hills are OK, but they are urging motorists to take their time. Deputy Chief Frank Arnoldy, of the Crestwood Police Department, said the roads in the city are in pretty good shape. He said there have been no major accidents this morning. David Knight, department manager for the Sunset Hills Police Department, said the roads in the area are wet and passable. He, said, "Motorists just need to slow down and take their time." In other weather-related news today, Wired Coffee is closed for the day due to inclement conditions.

Crestwood Resident Offers 16 Arguments for a Tax Increase

Jerome Friedeck submitted the following letter to the Board of Aldermen outlining what could be done with funds if the city asks for and receives a tax increase.

Crestwood resident Jerome Friedeck provided Mayor Jeff Schlink and the Board of Aldermen a list at Tuesday's meeting, which he said could be used as an answer to what the city could do if they enacted a tax increase--or at least, what to say if residents ask why the city would need one. Here's what Friedeck provided:   NEEDS FOR A TAX INCREASE 1. Raise in salaries for all Crestwood employees. 2. Make it easier to balance the budget. 3. Develop quarry site in Whitecliff Park for fishing and picknicking. 4. Replace trees which were removed by City along streets and right-of-ways. 5. Replace broken and deteriorated curbs along streets. These curbs were never repaired when streets were overlaid with blacktop. 6. Manholes on storm sewers should…

Former Crestwood Official Is Wentzville's New Interim Director of Finance

Petree Powell, also known as Petree Eastman, was Crestwood's City Administrator until last year.

Petree Powell assumed the duties of Wentzville’s top financial position as Interim Director of Finance on Thursday, Jan. 10.  Powell, who also is known as Petree Eastman, served as Crestwood's city administrator for a few months from 2011-2012. She left the position in March 2012. (The Crestwood Board of Aldermen recently chose Powell's full-time successor to the city administrator position, Mark Sime. Read more about Sime.) The Wentzville position became vacant at the end of 2012 when that city's Director of Finance Dennis Walsh officially retired. Walsh had worked for the city since June of 1988. The city lost a truly dedicated city administrator when they elected to terminate Ms. Eastman...oh well...good luck Ms. Eastman and congrats on your new position.
