Patrons of Kirkwood's Local Harvest Grocery now have an easy and exciting way to try new fresh food every week. The organic and local grocer has started a food subscription service called "Weekly Harvest." For $50 a week, subscribers receive a box that contains a week's worth of groceries, including fresh and local meat, produce, eggs, dairy and other locally grown or produced items. Vegetarian boxes are available as well. "It's really nice for people who want to consume local food year round and want to try new things," said Maddie Earnest, a co-owner of Local Harvest. The grocery store and cafe focused on local and organic products opens Thursday morning with a grand opening celebration this weekend.
Local Harvest Kirkwood opened its doors at the space formerly occupied by McDonnell's Market at 12309 Old Big Bend Road, Thursday at 8 a.m. The grocery store, which focuses on local and organic products, will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Kirkwood Patch got a chance to take a sneak peek at Local Harvest Kirkwood Wednesday. Seems like a good idea, worth a try. Not sure what local produce one can get in winter unless it's stored root vegetables or greenhouse grown veggies.   more ›
