Several homes in Sunset Hills, and one in Crestwood, have been the victim of a man claiming to be a neighbor needing cash.
A resident on Gayle Avenue in Crestwood told police that a man came to her home asking for help on June 4. He told the resident that he and his wife were involved in a car accident, and she was hospitalized. The man asked for $100 to 'get his car out of impoundment.' Soon after, the resident realized he was likely not a neighbor as he claimed to be.
Sunset Hills police said a man using a similar story duped residents out of $20 to $60 each while hitting homes on Woodfox, Sunset Terrace, Richview and Fox Meadows on May 31 and June 1.
The suspect has been employing the scam in Town & Country and Rock Hill, Sunset Hills Police Chief William LaGrand said. He advised residents to contact police immediately if they have a similar experience.
