Sperreng Teacher Taken Into Police Custody

A teacher was removed from grounds of the Sappington school on Tuesday.

A Sperreng Middle School teacher was taken into police custody on Tuesday, St. Louis County Police confirmed to KSDK.

[Editor's note: James Wilder was charged Wednesday with six counts of second-degree statutory sodomy. Please see our updated story.]

The arrest springs from a student-related incident that occurred in 1996, according to the KSDK report. No formal charges were filed as of Tuesday.

The teacher is accused of having a long-term sexual relationship with a student, KMOV reports, though "it is unclear whether the two met at Sperreng where the teacher is employed."
